About the Movie
At the height of the Vietnam War in the summer of 1969, best friends Charlie and Derek just graduated from High School in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Charlie starts University in two weeks, and Derek’s future is at the mercy of the U.S. military draft. In an effort to enjoy their remaining days together, Charlie and Derek resolve to take one final adventure. With minimal planning, the two boys set out for a 1,300 mile odyssey around the the mighty Lake Superior on a pair of rusted old Schwinn two-speed bicycles. When not combatting the saddles sores and technical difficulties that come with such an epic bike journey, the boys meet a bizarre pallet of people and take in the magical wonder of Lake Superior. Exhausted and beat up, Charlie and Derek are within mere miles of the United States border and salvation at Sault Ste. Marie. But it is when they are so close to completing their journey of a lifetime that the two best friends must face their most difficult challenge yet.
Superior truly lives up to its title as a "superior" film. The scenes are breathtaking from start to finish, giving you beautiful views of Lake Superior and the wonders of the Upper Peninsula. I was engrossed in the story; I laughed, I cried, and I laughed again. I had the opportunity to see Superior on the big screen and have already pre-ordered the film so I can watch again and again. Highly recommended for all ages.
New indie classic!
Beautifully filmed movie filled with moments of comedy, nostalgia, adventure, and stillness. Great family watch and an instant indie favorite!
Far From Superior
I never felt a connection with either character. This is NOT "The Summer of '42" in any way, shape, or stretch of the imagination. The premise might seem inviting, but we're never given more than a glimpse into the lives of these two young men. The story doesn't even explain why they're friends.
