San Francisco musician & rising star Goh Nakamura's (playing himself) life of solitude is disrupted when he is hired to teach TV actor Danny Turner how to play guitar for an upcoming film. Danny meticulously studies his every move, and the two embark on a hilarious adventure involving gigs, groupies, crazy record exes and an unexpected friendship. Along the way, Goh pursues his life-long chase for Rachel, the one that got away.
One of a Kind
iTunes is actually the perfect place for this movie to be discovered. It is a unique film about a real musician (Goh Nakamura playing himself) who you get to see travel from show to show along with an extroverted actor (Chadd Stoops) who is studying his every move and phrase for his next role. The contrast between the performer who shies away from the spotlight and the actor who craves it works perfectly here, it's REALLY funny. Also thrown into the mix is a possible love interest for Goh, Lynn Chen as Rachel who gives an effortlessly natural performance. And did I mention it's shot in sumptuous black and white which gives the film a little bit of the feel of Bob Dylan in "Don't Look Back"? If you're in the mood for a great comedy with realism that doesn't follow convention, this is it.
A great movie
This movie starts out as a bit of a goofy comedy then somewhere turns into a really beautiful film. Great performances throughout, especially by the three leads Goh Nakamura, Chad Stoops and Lynn Chen. Also, a lot of great performances in the small roles as well. Just a great film all around. Not an action movie, in fact, not a lot of action. Just very satisfying, well observed slice of life comedy and romance.
