About the Movie

Hank (Paul Dano) is stranded on a deserted island, having given up all hope of ever making it home again. But one day everything changes when a corpse named Manny (Daniel Radcliffe) washes up on shore; the two become fast friends, and ultimately go on an epic adventure that will bring Hank back to the woman of his dreams. Outrageously fun and deeply affecting, Swiss Army Man is a gonzo buddy comedy that is the feature film debut of acclaimed music video directors Daniel Scheinert and Daniel Kwan (collectively known as DANIELS, and responsible for the visionary “Turn Down For What” video, among many others). Bursting with limitless creativity in both form and content, Swiss Army Man goes from the absurd to the emotional to the whimsical to the profound and back again.

Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: By the end, having failed in its attempt at cleverness, the movie veers into sentiment, the inevitable last resort. The movie fails at that, too. – Mick LaSalle, San Francisco Chronicle, Jul 6, 2016

Fresh: If you stick with it, there's a chance it'll grow on you as it grew on me - and you'll be rewarded with maybe the best ending of any movie so far this year. – Richard Roeper, Chicago Sun-Times, Jul 1, 2016

Fresh: The third act dissolves back into emo indulgence. But before then, you may just have found yourself briefly watching in wonderment, only disturbed by the nagging feeling that this is all very wrong. – Danny Leigh, Financial Times, Dec 28, 2016

Fresh: It's Castaway meets Weekend at Bernie's. – Jim Schembri, 3AW, Dec 26, 2016

Shocking Surprise

Alright, I'll be honest, I'm totally in to stupid, quirky, and witty humor but I NEVER expected this movie to be as good as it was. I thought I was just gonna like it and be weird because no one else would but this film was absolutely incredible. There is so much more to it than humor. It's a deep, emotion invoking film that made me laugh, smile (just from how happy the moment was), sad (almost to the point of crying), this movie covered just about every emotion in the book.
Don't think that this movie is just a comic filled adventure, because it is more. It's about a man who had left his home because he felt abandoned by everyone he loved (and almost loved no one for how he was treated) and he saw no way out. He was afraid to be himself, for he was always condemned. So he runs and loses everything, realizes what he had and doesn't know how to get it back. Suddenly, he meets someone that can not only get him back home, but accepts him for who he is. This is a journey about a lonesome man who meets someone that is not only willing to help him get back his life, but show him how he deserves to be treated and accepted along the way. Furthermore, the man helping him has no memory of the world and wants to see it himself. This is a journey of a man returning home to a world he thought had abandoned him and another man discovering a world he had entirely forgotten and along the way they develop a thorough and full friendship, teaching each other and accepting each other.
This movie is literally one of the best movies I have ever seen. Definitely recommend watching as soon as possible. It is more than worth your time.

Sweet, funny, brilliant, poignant film about society and the human psyche. A film that finds the beauty inherent in humanity that we repress and discard and celebrates it shamelessly.
