About the Movie

After 10 years apart, three friends (Ethan Hawke, Robert Sean Leonard and Uma Thurman) reunite in a motel room to play out the unresolved drama of their final high school days. As layers of denial are peeled away, each character is provoked into revealing his or her true nature and motivation. A compelling drama, Tape examines the vast differences in how men and women interpret the same event.

Top Critics' Reviews

Fresh: Three actors yakking in a single drab interior, shot on HD video: It's unlikely this poverty-program recipe has, or ever will again, yield results quite as entertaining as "Tape." – Dennis Harvey, Variety, Jun 24, 2014

Fresh: Like most movies by Linklater, it's the kind of film that doesn't usually get made -- a dramatic chamber piece for young people. – Mick LaSalle, San Francisco Chronicle, Jun 18, 2002

Rotten: Implodes under the weight of its own 'excessive linguistic pressure.' – Michael O'Sullivan, Washington Post, Jun 24, 2010

Fresh: Tape made me believe that its events could happen to real people more or less as they appear on the screen, and that is its most difficult accomplishment. – Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times, Jul 7, 2010
