Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: Of course the special effects are more impressive than ever. But nearly every curveball offered up in this new parallel-universe version of the Terminator world isn't as interesting or as original as the timeline we loved in the first place. – Richard Roeper, Chicago Sun-Times, Jul 3, 2015

Rotten: The only one really having a good time is Schwarzenegger, who grins like a Cheshire cyborg even when nothing's funny, least of all the impending destruction of humanity. – Peter Howell, Toronto Star, Jul 2, 2015

Rotten: Apparently, this is the first of a new trilogy. One can only hope it improves. – Nick Dent, Daily Telegraph (Australia), Oct 23, 2015

Rotten: Part of what makes Terminator Genisys so pitiful as an evening out is that all the actors do over and over again is tell us why they're in a particular scene and why the movie exists. – Wesley Morris, Grantland, Jul 9, 2015

Respectfully Disagree

I took my 14 year son to this move in hopes of sharing the Terminator nostalgia with him. He has not seen any previous Terminator movies, I have seen them all. We were both very sorely disappointed.

The movie seems to be a desperate attempt to make a very well done theme better, and miserably fails in nearly every aspect. There is futile attempts to not only ‘remind’ viewers of previous story lines but to unsuccessfully add complexity and detail that leaves the viewer sorting out ‘what just happened’. (I will not go into details and ruin the show for those that have not seen it) I very much enjoy complex plots and mind benders, and I very much enjoy action shows that require you only to sit back and enjoy the ride. This movie tries to be both and missed the mark badly. The trailer blows the concept that might have otherwise been an interesting surprise. In general I found the acting to be very substandard. Sarah Connor’s role is illogical and confusing. She is lost in personality discrepancies that just don’t make sense. Its hard to connect to the character as she is unbelievable, and bifurcated. Her ‘deeper’ connection to Arnold S ( the only redeeming character in the show ) is corny.

If you expect this show to take advantage of modern CGI and blow new life into an already great presentation, it won’t. If you expect the character development to improve upon the legacy performances of Linda Hamilton and Michael Biehn, they don’t. The attempt to expand on the personalities is disappointing. If you expect new and refreshing plots to unfold and be woven into the legacy Terminator fabric - you will be disappointed. Although, they do try. The execution of new plot dimensions may have been better served with more careful editing and storytelling, and a less careless “more is more” approach.

Amazing movie everything was perfect ignore critics and people that bash it.

Saw this movie in IMAX 3D yesterday and I must say it was a amazing movie in every way. First off it had amazing special effects, great storyline that actually tied in everything from the previous movies, lots of laughs, tons of action throughout the movie, Emilia Clarke from game of thrones for those of you who are not familiar with her work as I believe this is her first actual movie which she does an amazing job as Sarah Connor and fills the role nicely, it was in all a wonderful movie which I will be seeing again. I went into it with not so high expectations and came out blown away by what I just saw. Highly recommended!!!

Good movie

Terminator and T2 are great movies because they were original and one of a kind at their time. Not to mention Arnold gave us one of the most iconic character and one liners of all time.... Those movies are great, original entertaining movies but their not amazing academy award winning films, let's be honest. I think Terminator Genisys did a great job at capturing what the first two did plus some. I'm excited to see what direction this new trilogy take w the rewriting of the timeline originally written by James Cameron. Once again, Arnold was amazing in this film. His portrayal of the character, guardian, was probably better than the movie itself.... But let's be honest. It's Arnold's character we fell in love with in the 80s and 90s. Overall. I really enjoyed this movie and can't wait for the next. No one can ever play the T800 like Arnold does. One of a kind.
