Top Critics' Reviews
Rotten: Mr. Sandler manages a frame or so of genuine sentiment, and the caricature is so ugly it's cute. He's a performer, and there are moments when audiences will surrender to his shtick. Moments.
Rotten: Another bottom-of-the-barrel raunchfest that is bound to make far more money than such sludge could ever deserve.
Rotten: It points you toward the irresistible conclusion that for all his success Sandler feels only contempt for his audience and tremendous insecurity about his own stature in the comedy universe.
Rotten: Central to the movie's deficiencies is Sandler's inability to create a comic character.
How could anyone NOT like this
This movie is fantastically funny - a throwback to the old Adam Sandler movies. Really, click, grown-ups, funny people - those were horrible films that barely made me laugh. This movie had me laughing hard the entire time. Both Sandler and Samberg were great. This was one of the best movies (comedy) I saw all year - that along with Ted and the Dictator.
A MUST SEE
SURELY, THIS FILM WILL WIN AN OSCAR!
After starring in last year's critical darling, "Jack and Jill", Adam Sandler has finally returned to bring us his epic tour de force, "That's My Boy". From the charming and unforgettable characters to the deeply complex and intricately woven script, everything about this Oscar-worthy masterpiece just screams perfection. Sandler brings to life one of the most complicated and sympathetic roles he's ever portrayed on screen, an alcoholic mess of a father desperately attempting to reconnect with his estranged son. It also helps that his unique accent sounds like a cross between Curly from "The Three Stooges" and a homeless pedestrian. And how could I forget the rest of the cast? Andy Samberg, Leighton Meester, and the legendary actor Vanilla Ice. They and everyone else give the performances of a lifetime. Mr. Sandler, thank you for creating this one-of-a-kind, 100% original movie that will be treasured for generations to come. I'm sure that it won't be forgotten five years from now as it lies at the bottom of a $5 discount barrel at your local Best Buy. Like Sandler's other critically-acclaimed films, this work of art will undoubtedly stand the very test of time as one of the greatest pictures in all of cinema. Bravo, Happy Madison Productions, bravo!
Great rated R throw back
This is what I'm talking about Sandler! True this is not for everyone, however, if you enjoy old school Sandler movies then you will be in for a real treat here.
