Down-on-his-luck repo man Rick Murphy (writer/director Eric Fleming) and his septuagenarian (Robert Culp in a poignantly comedic performance) are caught up in the kidnapping of a star baseball pitcher just before his team is to play in The World Series and a stroke of luck turns into a strike out of major league proportions. Assuming they can get a piece of the action that will set them up for life is their first mistake, but not their last, in this action-packed caper film. Also starring Shawnee Smith (Becker, Saw I-V) and Oliver Davis (Lucky Number Slevin, Rodney).

Top Critics' Reviews
Rotten: The film staggers under the weight of stale gags and a meandering plot.
Fresh: Fleming brings a feeling of loose, lively fun to the story. He writes funny characters, funny dialogue and funny situations.
Rotten: The Almost Guys reveals itself as a mawkish men-on-the-road comedy, a stultifying cross-country odyssey of bonding, bickering and group peeing.
Great indie comedy
Saw this movie at a film festival. Great throwback to a '70's comedy! It's better the second time. Sort of "Dog Day Afternoon" meets "Bottle Rocket." The lead, Fleming, is a natural - confident and charming but he doesn't grandstand like most actors who write and direct for themselves. Love seeing Robert Culp again. And Shawnee Smith in a movie without saws and blood! The acting in this film is great. There are a few moments - writing and acting - that are really nuanced and unexpected in an indie comedy like this. Especially between Fleming and the kid - excellent - I've seen him on ER.
This movie is an unexpected gem. I know it was released in a couple theaters here in Los Angeles, but I haven't seen it since. Movie critic on KROQ in LA asked, "Why can't studios figure out how to make a great little movie like this?" I wonder the same thing.
