Top Critics' Reviews

Fresh: At 28, Garfield's slightly older than Maguire was when he played Peter Parker in 2002, but his combination of fresh-faced innocence, nervous agitation and wry humor is immediately appealing. – Tom Charity, CNN.com, Jul 3, 2012

Rotten: Dumbed down, tarted up, and almost shockingly uninspired, it's the worst superhero movie since Green Lantern. – Ty Burr, Boston Globe, Jul 14, 2015

Fresh: This is a grittier webslinger saga, led by a Peter Parker with swagger and angst and a tone defined more by emotional resonance than wide-eyed wonder. It still has plenty of fizz. – Chris Vognar, Dallas Morning News, Jul 4, 2012

Fresh: I felt, with this film, that the use of 3D was actually exhilarating. – Margaret Pomeranz, At the Movies (Australia), Jul 14, 2015

Absolutely Amazing!

I've always been a huge Spider-Man fan, so seeing this movie was an absolute must for me. I'll admit, I was also a bit reluctant to see it, since Sam Raimi's trilogy did such an impressive job telling the story of the web-swinging superhero. Nevertheless, I ended up seeing "The Amazing Spider-Man" on opening day, and I couldn't have been any more pleased with the results. Andrew Garfield was the perfect choice to play Peter Parker, as were Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy and Rhys Ifans as Dr. Curt Connors (The Lizard). Garfield and Stone's on-screen chemistry, in particular, blew me away with how genuine and real it felt. As for the action sequences, don't even get me started. The state-of-the-art visual effects, combined with James Horner's epic score, kept me on the edge of my seat almost the entire time. Don't get me wrong, while this film definitely gets a lot of things right, it isn't perfect. The script lacks some of the charisma and soul that the original flicks had. Plus, the dramatic scenes frequently feel darker and more self-serious than they need to be. But in the end, I can't deny the fact that I had an awesome time with "The Amazing Spider-Man". It was fun, fast-paced, and full of energy. It may not have reached the same heights as the original Spidey movies, but for what it was, it more than delivered. I definitely recommend this film for any hardcore superhero fan. Personally, I can't wait to see where the franchise goes from here!

A REBOOT THAT WORKS.

I was worried when finding out that Hollywood was making a reboot of the Spiderman franchise. In all honesty, I was mad. I didn't want the producers to ruin the great work of the past. As I sat down and started watching the film, my head was turning. I have to say, Andrew Garfield is a great Peter Parker/Spiderman, and Emma Stone a fantastic Gwen Stacey. All in all I smiled at the end. The plot was completely fresh, acting superb, the special effects owned, and the direction wasn't so bad either. I recommend watching it in real D-3D (if you can). It was the best 3D I've ever seen apart from "Prometheus." To conclude, give "The Amazing Spiderman" a watch. It's really not bad at all.

A summer blockbuster!

The Amazing Spider-Man can be most likely named one of the best movies of 2012. I will admit it lacked in alot of areas but over all a great action movie!
