Arlen Faber (Jeff Daniels) is the reclusive and misanthropic author of "Me and God," a book that has redefined spirituality for an entire generation and has been translated into over 100 languages. On the eve of the 20th anniversary of his still wildly popular book, Arlen is still sought after as the man who has all the answers. Arlen find his world turned upside down when his life collides with Elizabeth (Lauren Graham), a single mother who might just be able to provide the salvation he needs.

Top Critics' Reviews
Rotten: Never shows enough passion to be interestingly bad.
Rotten: Arlen's salvation plays out with tender cloying predictability, though Lauren Graham, as the chiropractor who falls for him, has more spark than the movie deserves.
Rotten: The implausible Answer Man offers little clarity but plenty of far-fetched scenarios and credibility-defying coincidences.
Rotten: Daniels' Faber can be a curmudgeon one moment and a charmer the next, and it's hard to accept the notion that Graham's level-headed gal wouldn't instantly see through his act and show him the door.
I don't seem to understand why people gave this movie only 1 star. This is a great movie! It has a great message, great acting, and I strongly recommend watching it! Don't get dissuade by negative comments, if you like the preview, then you will like the movie! Watch it!
The Answer Man
I loved this movie. Very clever and really quite funny! I loved all the characters in the movie. Very entertaining.
I somehow missed this little gem in the movies and I just made up for that loss - this piece has the ability to touch in a simple yet very real way the awkwardness of life that we all experience and the beauty of those moments we all share. A totally understated commentary on friendship, the life changing impact that little things can have and the redemptive powers of love. It's quite frankly a classic hidden in the library of movies waiting to be discovered. Take a moment to discover it - you wont be disappointed.
