Winner of five 1960 Academy Awards including Best Picture, The Apartment is legendary writer/director Billy Wilder at his scathing, satirical best, and one of "the finest comedies Hollywood has turned out" (Newsweek). C.C. "Bud" Baxter (Jack Lemmon) knows the way to success in business...it's through the door of his apartment! By providing a perfect hideaway for philandering bosses, he reaps a series of undeserved promotions. But when Bud lends the key to big boss J.D. Sheldrake (Fred MacMurray), he not only advances his career, but his own love life as well. For Sheldrake's mistress is the lovely Fran Kubelik (Shirley MacLaine), the elevator girl of Bud's dreams. Convinced that he is the only man for Fran, Bud must make the most important executive decision of his career: lose the girl...or his job.

Top Critics' Reviews
Fresh: A gleeful, tender and even sentimental film.
Fresh: A comedy of men's-room humours and water-cooler politics that now and then among the belly laughs says something serious and sad about the struggle for success, about what it often does to a man, and about the horribly small world of big business.
Fresh: Most of the time, it's up to director Wilder to sustain a two-hour-plus film on treatment alone, a feat he manages to accomplish more often than not, and sometimes the results are amazing.
Fresh: Elevates the workplace romance into a sublime erotics of officious addresses (the omnipresent Mister and Miss) and economic conundrum.
I'm not gonna lie, everytime I come to the iTunes store to look for movies, I always look to see if they have this movie up yet, and surprise, surprise, it finally IS! This movie has everything, the level of acting brought forth by Jack Lemmon, who is one of my favorite actors of all time, is astounding. The only other movie that I can think of that he acts this well is Some Like It Hot, or on a dramatic level, Days of Wine and Roses. SLIH is another Billy Wilder movie, and he cemented himself as one of the top directors of all time, at least top comedy directors of all time. Every place I have looked for this has it at $20 or so, and it is nice for iTunes to have something that beats everyone else's price! Don't hesitate, BUY this movie!
If you like Mad Men, you'll love The Apartment
Although the lovable Baxter is nothing like Don Draper there are many similarities between the settings and situations of The Apartment and Mad Men. Worth the money if you have even a passing interesting in classic cinema. I recommend Marty, if you find yourself falling in love with this absolutely perfect (romantic)comedy.
This is one of my favourite movies (along with The Party and the original Italian Job). Give me side-splitting hilarity and the absurd... Definitely buying this to watch on my phone while walking my pup today... Can't wait!
