About the Movie

The Apple Pushers follows five immigrant street vendors who bring fresh fruits and vegetables to the inner cities of New York, where finding a fresh red ripe apple can be a serious challenge. These pushcart vendors are part of a New York City experiment to help solve the food crisis and the inner city’s skyrocketing obesity rates. Narrated by Academy Award nominee Edward Norton, The Apple Pushers is an inspirational story of hard work and dedication to good health.

Customer Reviews

One of the best documenatries of this year

A terrific film about the apple pushers of New York City - the vendors of the green carts that only sell fresh fruits and vegetables on the streets of the Bronx and Harlem. If you want to understand our current health / diet crisis in America, you must see this film. Not only does it clearly show the problems and the challenges, but the film presents a simple way to begin to make a difference - through the eyes and stories of the vendors who are on the street corners every day, pushing back the food deserts right now. Food carts are not THE solution -- there is no one silver bullet, but they do make a difference every day in the lives and health of thousands of people. Highly recommended.....

The Apple Pushers

A wonderful documentary informing the public about the importance of not only improving our standard of living in America, but also a tribute to the fine men and women work who immigrated to the United States and consequently became one of the solutions to the obesity epidemic.

Mary Mazzio does a fabulous job capturing the narrative of the immigrant experience and life, and how motivated and driven people get when told otherwise.

This documentary successfully helps spread the word of the food desert problem - by informing the public why push cart vendors are so important in getting affordable, fresh and healthy fruits and vegetables into the diet of American!

Powerful and entertaining
