Top Critics' Reviews

Fresh: Matt Dillon and Kurt Russell may not make the most convincing half-brothers, but "The Art of the Steal" is a fairly amusing heist film with some sibling tension helping the story along. – Neil Genzlinger, New York Times, Mar 13, 2014

Rotten: A derivative heist thriller-comedy that passes painlessly enough at a brisk 90 minutes, but ultimately feels as disposable as the numerous counterfeit paintings that exchange hands throughout. – Scott Foundas, Variety, Mar 19, 2014

Rotten: The actors give it punch, but in the grand scheme of caper comedies, "The Art of the Steal" is more breathlessly imitative than authentic. – Robert Abele, Los Angeles Times, Mar 13, 2014

Fresh: The end result satisfies both our vicarious greed and the desire some viewers will have to see a priceless work of art wind up in the hands of someone who couldn't care less about its price. – John DeFore, Hollywood Reporter, Feb 21, 2014

Hilarious and Cool - great fun

Incredibly funny and quite clever with its twists and turns. Goes right up there with films like Ocean's 11 and The Italian Job. Really great to see Kurt Russell back in top form, and Jay Baruchel just totally steals the movie. Also, how cool to see it before it's even in theaters?! Fantastic deal and a great watch.

Review Lover

Love this movie. So fun. Like a quirky and off-beat Ocean’s Eleven. My boyfriend and I watched tonight and it was the perfect weeknight flick - just enough juicy plot and enjoyable comedy. Jay Baruchel is hilarious and Kurt Russell is like an old favorite from growing up. I want to recommend it to my parents even, just cause it’s an old fashioned heist flick with an awesome new twist! Why not?! Definite recommend.

An amusing and overall entertaining take on the heist genre that keeps you on your toes. A movie you will want to watch again as soon as it ends.
