About the Movie
March 1989: two respected chemists from the University of Utah stand in front of a wall of reporters. Flashbulbs pop as they announce they have solved the world's energy problems using seawater, batteries and a mysterious glass contraption. 'Cold Fusion' is born. Within days, Stanley Pons and Martin Fleischmann are on the cover of Time Magazine. But three short months later, their careers in tatters and their reputations ruined, they flee the US as Cold Fusion becomes synonymous with 'bad science. ' Twenty-two years later, despite continued disdain from mainstream science, a group of scientists, entrepreneurs and one high school student are confident that Cold Fusion will save the world, and that we're closer than ever to the Holy Grail of civilization. They're The Believers.

A timeless and fascinating doc for everyone
This is the second film I’ve seen from these guys, and it even surpasses their first. They tell stories born from science not just an accessible and compelling way, but one that gets to the real, human heart of things--ambition, discovery, disappointment, and ultimately truth and hope. Wonderful.
A fascinating look into science vs psyche
This well-put-together film does not attempt to validate or disprove cold fusion. Rather, it delves into what motivates us to believe or disbelieve what we are told by media and experts. The film does report on the facts of the Pons-Fleishman episode, and has some heart-wretching looks at the demise of an elder statesman of science and the young protoge that he mentored. But the real gem are the glimpses of what makes a person believe or disbelieve. I found it an easy film to watch (the science doesn't clobber you) -- its really about people, not science. Really enjoyed it.
This was huge
Anyone who was old enough and alive during this time should remember that this was huge news and was going to change the world. Well it didn't but the dream did not die. Great doc on an almost is forgotten but should be preserved and the "believers" given another day in the sun. Buy!!
