About the Movie

Alec Ramsey (Kelly Reno) and his father are on a ship that also contains a beautiful black stallion which is owned by a frightening Arab, Larbi. There is a fire onboard ship, and the boy and horse are soon in the water. Both wind up on a deserted island, where Alec and the stallion gradually establish contact and rapport. During the rescue the horse escapes. Back in the USA, Alec finds the horse at a farm owned by Mickey Rooney. Mickey trains the horse; Alec becomes a jockey. And there is a big race to be won.

Simply beautiful and exhilarating

This warm story is simply beautifully told. I loved it through the eyes of a school-aged boy then, and I my wife and I thoroughly loved it as adults. Every scene touches you. It can only be better it becomes available for purchase in HD.

When this movie came out my mom took me to see it in the theater. It was such a great movie. To now see it through older eyes i still wish i was that little kid. There are a lot of cute movies about animals and the bonds with children, there is no better then the black stallion! Movies of yesteryear have a warmth to them. Today's movies seem to always have someone talking. You can seriously get lost in this movie.

Wrong Year

Just to make sure, this is the original 1979 release, and not a 1997 movie. The year is listed incorrectly.
