About the Movie

Jim Douglas (Gregory Peck) rides into town the night before the hanging of four outlaws. He's been on their trail, believing they raped and killed his wife. But hours before the execution, the four escape, taking a beautiful young woman hostage. Now it's a murderous race to the Mexican border. Taking charge of the posse, Douglas tracks down the criminals one by one-until the stunning, powerful conclusion reveals a terrible secret that leaves Douglas more desperate for salvation than revenge!

Customer Reviews

a great Gregory peck film!

very good, dark, and the ending has a great twist!

A clunker

A stiff, cliche-ridden script, flat characters, and a completely miscast Gregory Peck. Average cinematography (featuring some "nighttime" scenes that were shot through a comically blue filter). A clumsy attempt to suggest salvation through a better-late-than-never return to the church (and where did this tiny frontier town come up with a giant cathedral, anyway?). Peck was showing up for a paycheck and stoically going through the motions, chewing his way through a lame script, and Joan Collins was trying to look as pretty as possible in an eye-candy role ("When I first met you, I was husband hunting") while wearing 1960s-era fashion.

Definitely skip this one.
