Top Critics' Reviews
Rotten: The movie offers nothing funny, just a series of sour situations.
Rotten: I don't know if The Break-Up qualifies as a date movie. But it will serve as a cautionary tale for couples falling in love.
Rotten: One seemingly terminal problem with the casting of Ms. Aniston and Mr. Vaughn is that neither of their careers has featured characters who excelled at one-to-one relationships with the opposite sex.
Rotten: With a movie unwilling to go for the jugular, it's more like the dismal The Story of Us than The War of the Roses.
Not worth it.
I like Vince. I like Jennifer. I did not like this movie. It's like watching your parents fight, but there's no happy reunion over pizza when you get that A on your math test. The bickering, the petty stabs, an elephant in the room and 2 people too stuborn to talk about it are bothersome and not funny in the least. I saw this movie in the theater and regreted losing my money. Try not to spend your hard earned cash on this movie, just go watch your parents bicker for a few hours, I swear it'll be just as funny and romantic as this flick.
Hilarious! Very, very underrated!
First of all, this isn't called "The Perfect Relationship" ... Why you're looking for romance and happy endings with a title like this, I'm not sure. It is, however, a VERY well-done and hilarious movie with loads of vintage, Old School- and Wedding Crashers-esque Vince Vaughn moments. Of course, it's underrated because it doesn't have the cheesy Hollywood ending and Gary and Brook don't walk away at the end hand-in-hand. What? I ruined the ending? Guess what-- it's still worth it! In fact, the ending makes it even more interesting. Throw in tons of great Chicago shots, and it's a very solid 4 stars.
Where's The Romance
There's no happy ending, and it's not all that funny. Don't watch this with your mate/spouse
