About the Movie

Get the Extended Cut, with even more mud-slinging, back-stabbing, home-wrecking comedy featuring Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis. When long-term congressman Cam Brady (Will Ferrell) commits a major public gaffe before an upcoming election, a pair of ultra-wealthy CEOs plot to put up a rival candidate and gain influence over their district. Their man: naïve Marty Huggins (Zach Galifianakis), director of the local Tourism Center. At first, Marty appears to be the unlikeliest possible choice but, with the help of a cutthroat campaign manager, he soon becomes a contender who gives Cam plenty to worry about. As election day closes in, the two are locked in a dead heat, with insults quickly escalating to injury until all they care about is burying each other in this hilarious comedy from "Meet the Parents" director Jay Roach. Because even when you think campaign ethics have hit rock bottom, there's room to dig even deeper.

When I decided to go see "The Campaign" on opening weekend, I didn't exactly have the highest expectations. Will Ferrell's more recent comedies have been mostly hit or miss, and as for Zach Galifianakis, he hasn't really starred in anything memorable outside of the "Hangover" franchise. Still, I thought I'd give this film a chance since the trailers made it look so hilarious. And for the most part, I was right to do so. The humor here feels like a self-parody of sorts, with each of the main characters lampooning the common stereotypes of politicians in near-perfect form. It's also a laugh riot to see Ferrell and Galifianakis going at it like a couple of repulsively immature little kids. They're two of the most buffoonish, incompetent dimwits ever portrayed on screen, and yet, it's hard not to wanna root for both of them simply out of pure obnoxious charm. With a great supporting cast featuring Jason Sudeikis, Dylan McDermott, John Lithgow, and Dan Aykroyd, the laughs are always in full supply. But in the end, it's the dead-on satirization of the electoral system that really sends this film over-the-top. From the candidates' unabashedly manipulative campaign ads to the vicious political mudslinging, nothing is left unparodied. The only major problem with "The Campaign" is that it isn't quite as sharp or witty as it thinks it is. Since the humor is mostly reliant on crude, scatological sight gags, the political satire doesn't get as much of a chance to shine, which I personally found a bit disappointing. But other than that one slight misstep, I enjoyed "The Campaign" for what it delivered. Is it the funniest movie you'll ever see? Not by a long shot. This is definitely not a comedy that everyone will enjoy, but if you're a huge fan of Ferrell and Galifianakis' work (or if you simply wanna watch some vulgar lowbrow laughs), this outrageous political farce is worth seeing at least once.

One of the funniest comedies this year

Along with Ted and The Watch this truly is one of the greatest comedies I've seen this year. It delivered on so many levels laughs, good jokes etc. Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis should make more movies together because they did great in this one. This is a must watch for all Will Ferrell fans.
