Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: "The Cleanse" embarks on an allegorical journey with only the vaguest notion of a destination. As a result, the movie feels frustratingly repetitive - a single joke repeated ad nauseam. – Jeannette Catsoulis, New York Times, May 3, 2018

Fresh: Touches a chord of bittersweet feeling that a more genre-oriented thriller approach might not have managed. – Justin Chang, Variety, Mar 18, 2016

Fresh: Although it may evoke such films as "Gremlins" and "The Lobster," as well as David Cronenberg's earlier work, writer-director Bobby Miller's oozy, eerie, yet weirdly soulful yarn feels like an original. – Gary Goldstein, Los Angeles Times, May 2, 2018

Fresh: Master Cleanse isn't the easiest film to open up to. But Miller knows exactly how the third act should play, and he manages (thanks in part to the increasingly intriguing creature work) to reach an emotionally satisfying conclusion. – John DeFore, Hollywood Reporter, Mar 22, 2016

Customer Reviews

Reminds me of movies like Gremlins

The Cleanse is funny, dark, and in the end a really great emotional ride with characters and creatures you learn to love.

It’s an absolute treat to watch practical effects used to both gross you out and move you.

Good job Bobby Miller.

THIS IS NOT A COMEDY

We watched this last night thinking a nice comedy would be good. I wish I could get a refund for mismatketing by Apple!! The premise started ok if this was a drama. This is a comedy like Apacolips Now is a Comedy.

Wonderfully Unique Creature Feature

Funny, heartfelt and thoroughly entertaining. Great performances and the creatures effects are breathtaking. A perfect balance of comedy, drama and goopy monsters. Truly unlike anything you’ve seen before, can’t recommend enough!
