In a terrifying tale of the “American Dream” gone horribly wrong, residents of a picture-perfect Midwestern town begin to succumb to an uncontrollable urge for violence when a mysterious toxin in the water supply turns everyone exposed to it into mindless killers. Sheriff David Dutton (Timothy Olyphant of TV's JUSTIFIED); his pregnant wife, Judy (Radha Mitchell of SILENT HILL); Becca (Danielle Panabaker of FRIDAY THE 13th), an assistant at the medical center; and Russell (Joe Anderson of ACROSS THE UNIVERSE), Dutton’s deputy and right-hand man, find themselves trapped in a once idyllic town they can no longer recognize. Unable to trust former neighbors and friends, deserted by the authorities and terrified of contracting the illness themselves, they are forced to band together in a nightmarish struggle for survival in this reinvention of the George Romero classic.

Rotten: Here's what I can say for sure about the humanoid attackers in the new version of The Crazies: They're not very interesting.
Fresh: The Crazies does what an exploitation movie should: It gets in, it scares you silly, and it gets out, all while playing fair by the audience.
Fresh: [A] respectable update.
Fresh: In the big picture, the government is the bad guy. In the moment, however, the school principal with a blood-drenched pitchfork will do quite nicely, thank you.
Actually a great movie. Was expecting a gory, full of cussing, not scary movie like all the other horror movies are today. But this was very good and it was pretty scary. Recommend this
This is outstanding remake of George Romero's "The Crazies." Although it does not give the government's perspective like the original, it is more intense, realistic and gives more of the town's perspective as far as initial responses. I urge you to watch the original first in order to appreciate this re-make. As a child, I grew up with originals like "Nightmare on Elm Street", "Dawn of the Dead", "Halloween", "Friday the 13th" and I have yet to be dissapointed with any of the re-makes.....That goes double for this one. Definately worth the cost and time whether you have seen the original or not.
How many times in a life time do you get to see a classic movie turn into a remake...well there are lots of examples. This is among on the few best remakes ever made in a classic horror movie. The plot is great, keeps you thinking what might happen next. This made me think alot about "The Happening". Like "HOW COME HE DIDNT MAKE A STORY LIKE THIS?!!" Anyways this is a great movie and one more thing make it rentable too. Click (Yes) for The Crazies (No) for The Happening
