Fresh: For all its gore, The Devil's Rock is an undercooked chiller, but it cleverly uses the conventional tropes of diabolism to comment on the horrors of war.
Rotten: By keeping the action confined to the tunnels and cells of the blockhouse, Campion creates a claustrophobic setting, but for all the gore and demonic transmogrification, there's a distinct lack of chills and frights.
Rotten: Means well but ultimately lacks original thrills.
This is one of the sexiest films i've ever seen. The lead actress is perfect; she plays the nympho cannibal very well. Aside from the sex factor, the other acting, script, effects, and story are basically flawless. And more than that, it has some history. I didn't previously know the Channel Islands were occupied in WWII, so i learned something. Obviously I bought it after watching the rental.
Woot, first comment.
With a bit of trickery and a couple clever twists, this could have been more. The beginning had me hooked, but the film seemed slightly limited in its latter half.
Good fun...you know... awful Nazis, the Occult with a little eldritch magic, and a hot chick... geek paradise!!!
Enjoyed the movie- I think they could have really done something special with this- but no matter, what they were able to do was fun...
