Top Critics' Reviews

Fresh: The Dictator starts at outrageous and rockets on from there. Screw the occasional sputter. – Peter Travers, Rolling Stone, May 16, 2012

Rotten: The film has a vicious edge that the Marx Brothers didn't have, and it's too low-minded to achieve their enchanting blend of anarchy and surrealism. – David Denby, New Yorker, May 29, 2012

Rotten: Now [Cohen is] turning material both fresh and rancid into tepid gruel. – Joe Morgenstern, Wall Street Journal, May 17, 2012

Fresh: Underrated comic excellence from Sacha Baron Cohen with plenty of sharp satire lacing the broader gross-out gags. – Catherine Bray, Film4, Mar 4, 2013

Funniest movie I have ever seen

I will buy this movies as soon as it hits iTunes

Pretty Funny!

I had very high expectations for this movie. The trailer looked hilarious, and Sacha Baron Cohen is always outrageous and comical. But sadly, this movie wasn't as funny as I expected. Yes, it is better than Bruno, but it still didn't live up to all the hype. Most of the funny parts are shown in the trailer, so if you haven't seen the trailer yet, I recommend not watching it. But enough with the negatives, now for the positives. I laughed a lot in this movie. There weren't any scenes that had me in tears or made me burst out laughing, but it is laughable. There were a lot of racist jokes along with some offensive ones targeting women. And one more thing, this movie is more outrageous than it is funny. I personally think that outrageousness is hilarious, which is why I thought this movie was funny. I also think that this movie would have been a lot better if it was a little longer. Some scenes seemed a little rushed, and I think that they would've been a lot better if they had been longer. I recommend watching this movie, but don't think that it'll be the funniest movie you've ever seen.

Very funny movie!

I highly recommend this movie. It was funny throughout! Although it wasn't Borat, it was still an excellent, well crafted movie!
