The Dressmaker

Though the trailer looked interesting, and the characters definitely were, it was a very dark and disturbing movie. Be prepared to watch a movie about just how vile, horrific and damaging living in a community of bullies can be. Though I love Ms Winslet, the darkness and death was depressing. Be prepared to be deeply depressed, not amused at this film at all. Thanks for ruining my evening!

The Dressmaker

I believe this is one of the best films I have viewed in a long time. The storyline has many twists and turns to maintain interest. It is a great comedic and dramatic film. Kate Winslet presents a Best-Actress level performance, and Judy Davis deserves a Best Supporting-Actress, as well.

More Twisted Than Humorous !

There were brief moments of comedy, but hardly worth the other parts one had to stomach in order to reach those fleeting moments. The Dressmaker should NOT be considered a Comedy. It really is NOT... unless one is superficial, unstable or somewhat detached from reality. It is more like a complicated nightmare… that takes place in a weird little town with hateful, petty, shallow people and a lead character who is successful in her career, but emotionally disturbed. She finally finds the truth, peace of mind and Love and then loses her love just after she finds him ! She makes amends with her Mother only to lose her too, takes revenge on the majority of those who previously wronged her and then burns the town down to the ground! If you are looking for a FUNNY movie, as in truly comical, keep searching! This movie begs for a NEW MOVIE CATEGORY: “Dark Comedy”! However, iTunes would have to re-label and relocate many of the so-called ‘comedies’ into this new category of “Dark Comedy”. This would be time consuming, but time well spent for the Apple iTunes crew on behalf of your customers.
