About the Movie

Bianca's (Mae Whitman) universe turns upside down when she learns that her high school refers to her as a ‘DUFF' (Designated Ugly Fat Friend). Hoping to erase that label, she enlists the help of a charming jock (Robbie Amell) and her favorite teacher (Ken Jeong). Together they'll face the school's mean girl (Bella Thorne) and remind everyone that we are all someone's DUFF… and that's totally fine.

Top Critics' Reviews

Fresh: It's hard not to see "The Duff" becoming an instant teen classic. – Nick Schager, Variety, Feb 21, 2015

Fresh: Sandel's film has heart, some good laughs and a decent message. In this age of cyberbullying, that's nothing to scoff at. – David Lewis, San Francisco Chronicle, Feb 20, 2015

Rotten: This is a well-intentioned and sometimes quite sharp high school movie that falls just short of the mark due to a few way-off-the-mark scenes and too much heavy-handed preaching. – Richard Roeper, Chicago Sun-Times, Feb 26, 2015

Fresh: It's not "Mean Girls." It's not even "Easy A." But it's definitely a solid B. – Stephen Whitty, Newark Star-Ledger, Feb 20, 2015

This movie is great. Great in its comedic aspects, but also in its ability to relay a great message to all viewer. You’ll learn to love yourself and never to hide or change who you are for anyone even if you are the “DUFF”. Lol, just own it.

A Fun Comedy

Warning: this movie is absolutely nothing like the book (well, I guess you could say it has the spirit of the book). But, if you take the film for itself, it's fun, entertaining, smart, and the two leads have good chemistry.

I'm so into this movie.🎥🎥💽

After I saw the movie, it made me feel more than just a person called "the duff". This movie has a message. And this cast is amazing!!! I'm gonna buy this movie and think about how others feel, when not having labels in themselves. My favorite message movie!!!💖💘💓👍👍👏👏
