Plot Summary

They call it The Endless Summer, the ultimate surfing adventure, crossing the globe in search of the perfect wave. From the uncharted waters of West Africa, to the shark-filled seas of Australia, to the tropical paradise of Tahiti and beyond, two California surfers, Robert August and Mike Hynson, accomplish in a few months what most people never get to do in a lifetime - they live their dream. Director Bruce Brown created a film so powerful it has become a timeless masterpiece that continues to capture the imagination of every new generation. When it first played in theaters, audiences lined up to see it again and again, spellbound by its thrilling excitement and awesome photography. But in fact, what's most compelling about the film is the surfing itself and once you've seen it your search may never end.

Top Critics' Reviews

Fresh: Visually fascinating. – Robert Alden, New York Times, Jul 7, 2014

Fresh: Brown leaves analysis of the surf-cult mystique to seagoing sociologists, but demonstrates quite spiritedly that some of the brave souls mistaken for beachniks are, in fact, converts to a difficult, dangerous and dazzling sport. – TIME Magazine, Jun 24, 2010

Fresh: Part surfing film, part travelogue, occasionally even anthropological study and wildlife film, ultimately it visually taps into the wanderlust that sends us to far-flung beaches in search of an escape from life that we can't find at home. – Ian Buckwalter, NPR, Jul 25, 2014

Fresh: Just breathtaking. – Linda Stasi, New York Post, Aug 7, 2013
