About the Movie

Mark Wahlberg stars in Paramount Pictures' inspirational docudrama exploring the remarkable rise of Massachusetts-born lightweight title winner "Irish" Micky Ward. A determined pugilist whose career in the ring was shepherded by his loyal half-brother, Dicky (Christian Bale) -- a hard-living boxer-turned-trainer whose own career in the ring was nearly sent down for the count due to drugs and crime -- perennial underdog Irish Micky rebounded from a disheartening series of defeats to win both the WBU Intercontinental Lightweight title and the WBU Light Welterweight title thanks to a fierce combination of determination and hard work. David O. Russell directs from a script by 8 Mile's Scott Silver and Paul Attanasio (The Bourne Ultimatum).

I can`t cant wait for this movie !!

I should go and watch at the movies before it hits blu-ray !!

This movie was one of the greatest films ive seen this year, it is somewhat predictable (especially if you watched the trailer), but enjoyed every minute of it. Its one hell of a knock out and if you want to just be entertained for 2 years with mark and bale, then watch this film, its story is strong, its acting is at its best, and the music is worth listening to. I think bale was one of the best actors to watch in this film and you get very connected with the characters from the beginning, if you like fighting, good story, or just want to see it because is for academy awards then i recommend buying it

Unfocused: Bales Story.

The Fighter is a pretty good film. The supporting cast is strong, and Bale steals the show easily. Wahlberg is supposed to be the main character and "star" of the film, but Christian Bale becomes the main focus for the middle half of the film, before the film gets back on topic to Wahlbergs boxing situation.
It's a pretty unfocused film that isn't anything we haven't seen already. Washed up boxer trying to be number one...
It was good for what it was, but seems to get off topic every now and then, becoming more interested with the brother of Micky rather than Micky himself.
But as far as boxing films go, if you want to compare this to a movie like Cinderella Man, which has a similar premise (underdog boxer living a hard life, trying to prove himself to everyone), then Cinderella Man is a more powerful film all around. A stronger main character in that film also.
The Fighter will pass the time, but overall it's not the best film about boxing I've seen. It's humorous at times, and touching at others. But never as much as it can be. Micky Ward comes off as childish, whiny, and struggling to be independent. Everybody telling him what to do, bossing him around, living his life for him...and the film portrays it great, as the entire supporting cast walks all over Micky Wards character and overshadow him in every scene that they're in with him.
Bale will definitely win an Oscar for his role. As for every other aspect of the film-- it's forgettable.
