Top Critics' Reviews
Rotten: The special effects are funnier than, I suspect, they were intended to be.
Rotten: As a documentary on the USS Nimitz, The Final Countdown is wonderful. As entertainment, however, it has the feeling of a telepic that strayed onto the big screen.
Rotten: It's filled with technology, special effects and action. But it just doesn't make any sense.
Finley iTunes got this movie up I've been bugging them for days this movie is one of my all time favorites a must have for all lovers of aircraft carriers and movies about them
Really Makey You Think
This movie is a great "what if" story that could have changed the world we live in. Anyone who enjoys WWII histroy will enjoy this movie as it captures 1940 era boats and aircraft agains the backdrop of a modern nuclear carrier. Matching up WWII zeros against F16s is amazing. You have to see the astonishment on the pilots faces when they see an American plane that is passing them like they are sitting still. There is also the obligatory love story so even the women will like it. And what would you invest in if you were suddely left behind in 1941? Facinating. The film is so well done it should be a classic that is viewd by millions more. To watch it is to love it. If you area a Back to the Future fan, you are a Final Countdown fan, but you just don't know it yet.
This movie is actually pretty good and should get a lot more praise then it has been given. Kirk Douglas...Martin Sheen...Katherine Ross....James Farentino. A pretty good cast.
The movie is just fun and entertaining. It wasn't meant to be a blockbuster, just a way interesting story and if you're a fan of sci-Fi
or time travel, or even a fan of history...you will enjoy this film.
