About the Movie

Three-time Oscar nominee Tom Cruise delivers the most electrifying performance of his career in this riveting film based on the international best-seller. Cruise plays Mitch McDeere, a brilliant and ambitious Harvard Law grad. Driven by a fierce desire to bury his working-class past, Mitch joins a small, prosperous Memphis firm that affords Mitch and his wife (Jeanne Tripplehorn) an affluent lifestyle beyond their wildest dreams. But when FBI agents confront him with evidence of corruption and murder within the firm, Mitch sets out to find the truth in a deadly crossfire between the FBI, the Mob, and a force that will stop at nothing to protect its interests – "The Firm." Directed by Oscar winner Sydney Pollack and starring Oscar winner Gene Hackman plus a magnificent supporting cast, "The Firm" makes its case as the must-see movie of the year.

Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: The movie is extremely long (two hours and 34 minutes) and so slow that by the end you feel as if you've been standing up even if you've been sitting down. – Vincent Canby, New York Times, Jul 16, 2008

Fresh: The Firm amusingly satirizes the New Traditionalist aspirations of today's young urban elite -- not so much the lifestyle itself as the illusion of utter security it represents. – Owen Gleiberman, Entertainment Weekly, Sep 7, 2011

Fresh: A smooth adaptation of John Grisham's giant bestseller that is destined to be one of the summer's strong audience pleasers. – Todd McCarthy, Variety, Jul 7, 2010

Fresh: Cruise was born to play company man, and the role is an opportunity to sum up his old roles and transcend them with his most potently emotional work. – Joe Brown, Washington Post, May 26, 2008

Dont Buy

This is a great movie but you cant watch the last 15 minutes and that stinks.

Good but not great.

This movie was interesting but I don't think it was the best John Grisham book-made-movie. The characters just weren't as likable as the ones in the film versions of The Pelican Brief or The Client. And the music score wasn't that great and took away from the suspense a little. The story, on the other hand, was well done and kept me interested from start to finish. If your a big fan of John Grisham then check this one out, just make sure to see some of the other adaptions too.
