About the Movie
Despite her harsh surroundings, the precocious and ebullient Moonee has no trouble making each day a celebration of life, her endless afternoons overflowing with mischief and grand adventure as she and her ragtag playmates—including Jancey, a new arrival to the area who quickly becomes Moonee’s best friend—fearlessly explore the utterly unique world into which they’ve been thrown. Unbeknownst to Moonee, however, her delicate fantasy is supported by the toil and sacrifice of Halley, who is forced to explore increasingly dangerous possibilities in order to provide for her daughter.

Top Critics' Reviews
Fresh: The Florida Project, though, dances deftly around kitchen-sink realism and instead looks at this pastel world through the eyes of characters too young to know, or care, that they aren't rich.
Fresh: It's one of the most effective, honest portraits of childhood you'll ever see, and a touching, poignant snapshot of American life in 2017.
Fresh: It doesn't just show what its characters go through, it observes. It notices. It studies. This is a film that pays attention to the little details that communicate huge feelings.
Fresh: Little Moonee is innocent in every sense that counts, and even her worst misdeeds are fuelled by excitement at the possibilities of life.
Phenomenal Indie Film!
This homegrown film features an adorable first go-round with little Brooklyn Prince, while Willem Dafoe gives his best performance in probably ever. While it starts as a lighthearted romp, the dramatic elements and first rate production of this top-tier indie will take you on a surprisingly emotional ride. Highly recommended!
Beautiful and heartbreaking
I’ve lived in Central Florida for 17 years and I’ve driven by these locations and seen these people, it’s a spot-on representation of those in that position and location. The cinematography is beautiful and the acting from EVERYONE is phenomenal, this movie has stuck with me for days. Definitely check out this movie about those who live in the shadow of “The Happiest Place on Earth,” but be prepared for a loosely-plotted character study that packs one hell of an emotional punch.
The Florida project
Spot-on story line. I lived in central FL for years. Saw many people similar to movie depictions all over that area. Only confusing part of movie was the ending. I know how the director filmed the movie. I’ll bet Disney is upset about it. My husband worked at wdw. There is no way those kids would’ve gotten into MK like that. They would have been stopped at many points along the way from where they were living to the park. Many wdw staff all along entrance roads, front tourist ways in and the back employees’ entrance roads.
