Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: The movie's only fresh element is the wintry setting, which shrouds everything in a mood of weary fatalism. Otherwise, it's the same old, same old, efficiently discharged and utterly disposable. – Stephen Holden, New York Times, Aug 22, 2013

Fresh: Hangs a tad slackly between thriller and procedural, but still holds attention throughout. – Dennis Harvey, Variety, Aug 1, 2013

Fresh: A taut procedural with atmospheric location work that traces Cage's clock-racing efforts to find evidence against Cusack ... – Lou Lumenick, New York Post, Aug 23, 2013

Fresh: The Frozen Ground is trying its best to act as a genuine tribute to the victims of a horrible crime. Unfortunately it falls short... Though still functioning as a solid genre piece, the chasm between intention and execution is embarrassingly apparent. – Richard Haridy, Quickflix, Dec 10, 2013

goog movie

good movie. pictures at the end of real victims- make this movie more real

Excellent, but credits music idiotic

Imagine watching a great film about a serial killer and at the very ending, going to credits, the background music to pictures of actual victims is screaming upbeat rock. Renting at home I muted it but I feel sorry for anyone who watches this film in a theater and can't escape this idiotic music at the end. It's a dramatic, tense excellent film with excellent acting but someone thought it needed a hard rock ending as we watch the faces of real victims of the subject killer.

Excellent True Story! Worth Watching!

Being from Anchorage, I am slightly biased on liking this film. I was pleasantly surprised with the amount of local footage shot and happy it wasn't filmed in Canada etc.! I haven't been impressed the last few years with Nicholas Cage, but he actually did his character justice. Vanessa Hudgens did an extraordinary acting job and to me was the star. I suggest you give it a watch, it isn't a waste of time!
