Consistently ranked among the greatest films ever made, Buster Keaton's 'The General' is so brilliantly conceived and executed that it continues to inspire awe and laughter with every viewing. This Kino Lorber edition is mastered in HD from a 35mm archive print struck from the original camera negative. Rejected by the Confederate army and taken for a coward by his beloved Annabelle Lee (Marion Mack), young Johnny Gray (Keaton) is given a chance to redeem himself when Yankee spies steal his cherished locomotive. Johnny wages a one-man war against the hijackers, an errant cannon and the unpredictable hand of fate while roaring along the iron rails. "Every shot has the authenticity and the unassuming correct composition of a Matthew Brady Civil War photograph, wrote film historian David Robinson, "No one - not even Griffith or Huston, and certainly not Fleming (Gone With the Wind) - caught the visual aspect of the Civil War as Keaton did."

Top Critics' Reviews
Fresh: [Keaton's films] have such a graceful perfection, such a meshing of story, character and episode, that they unfold like music.
Fresh: An almost perfect entertainment.
Fresh: The film boasts the most sustained passages of virtuoso slapstick genius Keaton ever shot, and an unflagging momentum that lets it get away with being a reel longer than most of his best-known pictures.
Fresh: A hilarious comedy and a thrilling action film. The General has it all.
Buster Keaton in HD is BETTER than classic!
If you've never seen a silent film, this should be your first. Buster Keaton is one of the funniest physical comedians, in the history of film. I've seen this film several times, but never in stunning HD! When you consider that this film was released in 1926, the picture is amazingly clear. The enhanced audio track is a nice added bonus. Don't miss this film...you'll regret it.
