Top Critics' Reviews
Fresh: In the total context of Polanski's hard life and grim ordeals ... The Ghost Writer constitutes a miracle of artistic and psychological resilience.
Rotten: While an intriguing political thriller, it disappointingly lacks the atmosphere of Roman Polanski's previous masterpieces.
Fresh: Part detective story part political thriller, The Ghost Writer is built on recent world events in an imaginary scenario that is not so fanciful as to be incredible
Fresh: In every respect, this is an exemplar of the art of the thriller. Directors like Polanski are a dying breed. We need more of them.
A truly intelligent thriller.
What is so amazing about this film is that it builds incredible suspence without the use of action or visual effects. Instead the suspence is built upon an incredible storyline and stellar performances by the perfectly selected cast headed by Ewan McGregor. While there was not much character development for Ewan's role, he carried out his performance top-notch. Pierce Brosnan's role as Adam Lang didn't have as much screen time as I thought he would, but still managed to carry out a brilliant and satisfying performance. The screenplay was a brilliant piece of work. Instead of switching from scene to scene every few minutes, it gave us time to be really ingaged in the story and characters. An truly intellectual and wonderfully directed film that will stand out from other thrillers in the years to come. "The Ghost Writer" gets a well earned two thumbs up.
Why is this censored?!
The movie is quite good, but why in the world is it censored?! At first I thought I was imagining it, but in some instances, it is blatanly obvious that is has been censored. Freaking darn and all the words that no one says out of TV!
Great movie, but the dialogue is censored (the eff word anyway). Really obvious and annoying.
