Top Critics' Reviews
Fresh: There's a lot to like about the action film "The Girl From the Naked Eye," especially some crisp martial arts fight sequences and the subtle sense of humor that surfaces now and then.
Rotten: Newcomer Jason Yee proves plenty adept at chopsocky, but his chops are nonexistent on the thesping side.
Rotten: There are dozens of better, riskier, more interesting films that go unreleased every year-why this militantly dull effort is taking their place is its only worthwhile mystery.
Rotten: At times off-putting, at other times outright campy, "The Girl From the Naked Eye" does offer a measured amount of queasy fun.
An incredibly BAD movie
First off I love bad movies, I think some of them (Toxic Avenger for instance) are hilarious, this however is not that type of bad movie it is just plain bad.
Good points: Some of the cinematography showed promise during the movie and some of the fight scenes were well done. I thought the man who played "Simon" did a good job.
The script was really weak in just about every area - The people who could act couldn't help the material they were given.
From this showing I will agree with the critics in that Jason Yee can't act, not even a little. At no point did I buy him in that role.
The relationship between Sandy and Jake was the main failing point of this movie beyond the story itself. I never bought it was this "once in a lifetime" thing that would make a cynical guy like Jake go nuts and start beating the crap out of the town trying to find out who killed her.
If you can get it for .99 I would see about getting a refund first before paying even that price.
If you are Action fan, check it out! It
This movie is not out to reinvent the wheel, it's a nice way to spend an hour and a half and it is a Martial Arts/Noir mash up which I don't know about you, but I personally have not heard of, so I give it credit for going in a different route.
If I were to judge this strictly as a Martial Arts/ Action movie, this movie is certainly worth checking out, there is definitely the prevalence of MMA in this film, with the Muay Thai, Take downs, and Arm Bars . The last one i saw do this well in a action/crime movie was maybe Flash Point w/ Donnie Yen! It was cool to see Capoeria showcased.
