About the Movie
Austrian designer Stefan Sagmeister is doing well. He lives in New York, the city of his dreams, and he has success in his work, designing album covers for the Rolling Stones, Jay-Z and the Talking Heads. But in the back of his mind he suspects there must be something more. He decides to turn himself into a design project. Can he redesign his personality to become a better person? Is it possible to train his mind to get happier? He pursues 3 controlled experiments of meditation, therapy, and drugs, grading himself along the way. But real life creeps in and confounds the process: art, sex, love, and death prove impossible to disentangle. His unique designs and painfully personal experiences mark a journey that travels closer to himself than ever intended.
Loved it at the screening, love it now
I saw this at the Philadelphia screening and it really hit home. Sagmeister shows a raw and heartbreakingly human side to creation and himself as a person. I've recommended this movie to every designer I know, and will continue to recommend it. Job well done!
Comedic, Consoling Exploration of Happiness
I'm very inspired by this film and the accompanying exhibition (The Happy Show). An intimate look at designer Stefan Sagmeister's life, and at times comedic and consoling exploration of meditation techniques, cognitive therapy and anti-depressants. As an artist, he makes this attempt completely open to the world -- a brave act to share the mistrials with us. I feel the audience can easily commiserate, as I have with his 7 year journey, through the traveling exhibition and now film. A must see for designers, performance artists, comedians, therapists, easy hearts and pursuers of whatever helps you sleep better at night.
Quirky and honest
Loved it! Watched it in advance viewing in international flight and want to see it again! This time without the movie being cut off just as I was landing...the suspense!
