About the Movie
After the blockbuster success of Pirates of the Caribbean, another Disney theme park ride is adapted for the big screen in this family-friendly mix of comedy and chills. Jim Evers (Eddie Murphy) is a real estate agent whose latest project is to find a buyer for a huge but dilapidated old house in New Orleans. However, when Evers visits the property with his family, he discovers it's already inhabited by 999 ghosts, none of whom are interested in sharing the space. As the spirits make their displeasure known, Evers and his family try to shoo them away with the help of an eccentric medium named Madame Leota (Jennifer Tilly). The Haunted Mansion also stars Terence Stamp, Don Knotts, and Wallace Shawn.

Top Critics' Reviews
Rotten: The movie's horror angle also reminds us of Vampire in Brooklyn, the last in a string of Murphy flops before The Nutty Professor saved his screen career in 1996. With this listless foray, Eddie is twice bitten.
Rotten: Contempo Hollywood may be awash in brilliant technicians and craftspeople but it also needs good storytellers, who aren't to be found in The Haunted Mansion.
Rotten: Rob Minkoff has directed a movie that's nearly laughless and nowhere near as frightening as what's happened to Eddie Murphy's career.
Rotten: Haunted Mansion won't be anybody's E-ticket ride, but it's an enjoyable movie for a very specific age range (children 8 to 12), and will be tolerable for almost everyone else.
this movie is totally worth the money. buy it. watch it. enjoy it.
This movie is pretty good. Some parts are scary. And some are really funny. Watch it but watch the trailer before you buy it.
Ok. When I saw previews for this movie I really wanted to see it. My family rented it, and I was expecting something as great as Pirates of the Caribbean. Unfortunately, I found it not as good (but really, what can measure up to Pirates?!?). But there were still parts of the movie that I thought were exactly like the ride, such as the singing statues. The acting was pretty good, but some of the movie was a bit unbelievable (who would take their family to a run-down "haunted" mansion?). It's about a guy who sells houses, and is tricked into going to the masion to sell it. He talks his wife into dropping by on the way to a family trip, and the family gets side-tracked at the mansion. They have to figure out it's mysteries before they're able to leave. But can they? Watch to find out.
