Robert Filion has to travel south to identify the body of his father who died of a sudden heart attack in a Florida resort. Robert, separated from his wife, flies south with his young son, Maxime. The road movie begins after the body has been shipped north by train to be buried. Then, father and son drive north in the dead father's car on highways lined with overbooked motels. During the long drive, the rooms they find become darker and colder and so does their relationship. This fragile relationship finally breaks down on "The Heat Line" where the warm weather meets the northern cold front when Robert tries to kidnap his own son who is in the custody of his wife.
