About the Movie

Jack Maldonado is a hot-blooded, ambitious young man who, fueled by misguided nostalgia, buys a small apartment building in the Bronx and moves his boisterous family into the apartments to live rent-free. His parents, Carlos and Martha, sister Nadia, brother Richie and his wife Rosa, Grandmother Abuela and cousins Hector and Manny, all converge under one roof. Tension quickly builds as Jack imposes his views on everyone around him, including his fiancée, Lily. All the while, he hides the fact that his corner store is a front for selling marijuana, but soon has to deal with new unwanted competition. It's only a matter of time before Jack's family and 'business' lives collide in tragic fashion.

Superb acting and hooks you in right away

Saw this at LAFF and what a film! I was blown away by the acting and by the cinema photography. For the director to bring this film to life and make me want to know this family is genius. I love to be inspired and this film inspired me.

Best Film of the Year!

I was lucky enough to see the world premiere of this amazing movie at the 2013 L.A. Film Festival, and I’m thrilled the rest of the world gets to see it now on iTunes. An incredible story about what some people will do to keep their family together. Great performances, great writing, and great directing! Enjoy!

Chekhov meets the Godfather in this gem

This film deserves to be known and watched. The acting is superb--perfectly cast, without a weak link, which is all the more impressive in a cast so large. It is also beautifully directed, with a comic touch and an attention to subtle details that heighten the film's tension and impact. The film is also noteworthy for its tone--a Chekhov-like mix of tragedy and comedy, a difficult balancing act that Barrial and his cast and crew pull off effortlessly. Overall, a real, meaty film that stays with you after it's over.
