About the Movie

The Hunt is a disturbing depiction of how a lie is taken as truth when gossip, doubt and malice are allowed to flourish and ignite a witch-hunt that soon threatens to destroy an innocent man’s life. Lucas is just starting to get his life back together after losing his job and facing a difficult divorce, when his life is shattered by an untruthful remark, throwing his small community into a collective state of hysteria. As the lie spreads, Lucas is forced to fight a lonely battle for his life and dignity.

Top Critics' Reviews

Fresh: It is a devastating film to watch, a heedful one, and a tragic reminder that no matter how well a life has been conducted, the mere whiff of such scandalous behavior is condemnation enough. – Betsy Sharkey, Los Angeles Times, Jul 12, 2013

Fresh: An intense, hard to watch drama, of a man's life torn apart by his fellow citizens. The performance is skilled enough that it won the top acting award at last year's Cannesfestival. – Walter V. Addiego, San Francisco Chronicle, Jul 25, 2013

Fresh: [A] harrowing but flawed study of an innocent man accused of pedophilia. – Peter Keough, Boston Globe, Jul 18, 2013

Fresh: Danish actor Mads Mikkelsen delivers an astonishingly restrained and expressive central performance in The Hunt, an engrossing psycho-social drama by Thomas Vinterberg. – Ann Hornaday, Washington Post, Jul 25, 2013

Hmmm

Well, it's not boring, for starters. But seemingly, either Danish people are brain damaged (I am Danish, btw), or the characters in this film are preposterously stupid. Some of them do such ridiculous, outrageous things that the film lost me, to be honest. I don't want to put any spoilers in here, but the response from the teacher / principle at the Kindergarten is actually illegal. Without giving it away, there is NO WAY that multiple officials and staff would respond in that manner, maybe one loony in the mix would so radically botch the investigation, but all of them? At the same time? With all the same ridiculous blind spots and sabotaging behavior? It's really implausible and actually I had to stop the film several times because I was laughing so hard in disbelief at their actions and lines. Even now, I start laughing when I recall it.

That said, it's a compelling film. I was never bored, so how can I complain. And even though I lost my suspended disbelief, I watched it to the end, and the performances were fine, considering the lines they had to deliver.

So, sure, watch it. But in my opinion… many of the scenes and character choices should be featured on that segment of "REALLY???" with Seth Meyers from SNL.

:)

Disturbing. Well done.

You hear of this type of thing happening, but I suspect innocent people never think it could happen to them. Sad when you might want to reach out and touch or hug a child because you care, but then it could be mistaken and viewed as something sinister. As an adult, I never, ever touch a child for any reason.....just because of this type of situation. Excellent movie, beautifully acted, achingly sad.

Heavy Flick

This movie will certainly find its self a spot on the shelf in my movie collection. Great movie that will be up for the oscars. This movie has it all. 6 bags of popcorn
