Top Critics' Reviews
Fresh: One of the best movies of the year, with a star-making performance from Jeremy Renner.
Fresh: There is something original and distinctive about the film's willingness to admit that for some men (and many moviegoers) war carries an intrinsic dramatic charge.
Fresh: The action itself is episodic, with every ounce of tension eked from some stunning set pieces where lingering shots accentuate the bleak cinematography and stripped down sound design to draw the maximum heat and hopelessness of this hell on earth.
Fresh: The film sweats out its truth from its central character.
I am an Army EOD tech and I found this movie insulting to all soldiers not just EOD techs. It is so far fetched that I spent the entire movie angry. I understand that it is a movie and you must suspend disbelief to really enjoy a movie but it was billed as a realistic war movie. That could not possibly be farther from the truth. There is no real storyline and the action sequences are completely unbelievable. It makes American soldiers in general, and EOD soldiers specifically, look like completely incompetent boobs. I recommend that all veterans boycott this movie. If I could get my two hours of life back I would.
The Hurt Locker.....Outstanding
I saw this film on a specisl prescreening and as a veteren of Iraq myself, I found it very well done. This movie is one of the best movies I have seen that shows the emotional and physical challenges that soldiers face. I recommend this to anyone who has an interest in this genre.
I watched this movie with my soldiers in Iraq. All it did was provided us with endless hours material to make fun of EOD with (worked closely with them everday). It makes me laugh that a bunch of people who know nothing about Iraq/Afganhistan claim this movie to be realistic. At first it made us mad, then we realized how unrealistic it was and it just made us laugh!
