Plot Summary

What was Mark Whitacre thinking? A rising star at agri-industry giant Archer Daniels Midland (ADM), Whitacre (Matt Damon) suddenly turns whistleblower. Even as he exposes his company's multi-national price-fixing conspiracy to the FBI, Whitacre envisions himself being hailed as a hero of the common man and handed a promotion. But before all that can happen, the FBI needs evidence, so Whitacre eagerly agrees to wear a wire and carry a hidden tape recorder in his briefcase, imagining himself as a kind of de facto secret agent. Unfortunately for the FBI, their lead witness hasn't been quite so forthcoming about helping himself to the corporate coffers. Whitacre's ever-changing account frustrates the agents (Scott Bakula and Joel McHale) and threatens the case against ADM as it becomes almost impossible to decipher what is real and what is the product of Whitacre's active imagination.

Fresh: In the end, it seems as though it's better to aim for searing moments and whiff on greatness than to shoot for the middle and hit it. – Laremy Legel, Film.com, Nov 14, 2011

Fresh: After a parodic run-up, the film betrays a certain respect for this odd little creation. – Nicolas Rapold, Film Comment Magazine, Sep 24, 2014

Fresh: Soderbergh has decided to splurge on some big budget luxuries such as 'trained actors' and 'lighting' in his latest film (elements that have been missing from his more experimental works). – Simon Miraudo, Quickflix, Oct 21, 2014

Rotten: It's like being told lies for an hour and a half. And I'm just not into that. – Margaret Pomeranz, At the Movies (Australia), Jun 24, 2010

ummm.....yeah....

So, the only reason I watched this movie is because I was stuck on a plane flying back from Japan and I had about 10 hours to kill. I sat there for 108 minutes waiting for something funny to happen.....that moment never came. Do yourself a favor and look elsewhere.

The Informant Movie review

When i went to go out to see this movie, not knowing what it was going to be about exevpt for seeing it was so called "dark comedy"' in the paper by the STARS movie reviews. After seeing the film I was very suprised to see this movie was about the bad liar who just did'nt know when to stop or give it up. Overall, it was an entertaining movie, I would give it at least a rent if your looking for a unusual flick. Mark Whitacre is portrated perfectly by Matt Damon making it more enjoyable.

Not a comdey!

But it's still a fine good movie!!! People saying it's boring are just looking for a full blown comedy!! It's very interesting film to watch and then sorta disect! Who is good and who is bad?? Damon was great in it!!! Stop bashing the film cause it wasn't "step brothers" or some over the top comedy. It's a serious film with a dark comedic twist at times, matt Damons narration is great!!!
