Top Critics' Reviews
Fresh: A pleasant collection of mild laughs.
Rotten: The fact that this overlong, often preposterous comedy succeeds at all (which it does, only occasionally) proves that the Vaughn/Wilson charm can still work a measure of magic.
Rotten: This is the biggest product placement in history, with the Google brand treated as something we should all happily bow down before. There's something seriously disturbing in this.
Rotten: The Internship is a big wet kiss to Google wrapped in a buddy comedy that asks us to believe that nobody over 40 knows anything about computers or the online universe.
The Internship Amuses
I'm a younger nerd thing with friends who played Quiddich in college, friends who work in the tech industry, and friends who have scary encyclopedic knowledge of things like the X-Men. On the nerd culture front, I felt like they nailed it. Some of the humor wasn't exactly my style - a little too slap-stick - but the movie had a good heart, and it made me laugh. A lot. Dylan O'Brien and Josh Brenern keep the screen pretty, and there's a strip club scene for the boys, so eye candy for everyone abounds.
What did I just watch? One long stupid commercial for Google.
To be honest I wasn't expecting much from this movie….other than the fact that I like Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson and figured it would be good for a few laughs. Long story short, I think it's one of the better movies they have ever done. Absolutely give it a shot and I think you will be pleasantly surprised. It's one of my favorite comedies in a long time…...
