Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: The latest and lamest version of Invasion of the Body Snatchers might have been an accidental camp classic if its politics weren't so abhorrent and the movie didn't try to hide its ineptitude behind a veil of pomposity. – Manohla Dargis, New York Times, Jul 16, 2008

Rotten: Next time the aliens come invading, they may want to pass the brains, hold the lecture. – Scott Bowles, USA Today, Sep 1, 2007

Rotten: There is nothing here to be taken seriously, let alone fear. – Jack Mathews, New York Daily News, Aug 18, 2007

Rotten: Nicole Kidman's character struggles to stay awake -- as will the audience. – Lou Lumenick, New York Post, Jul 16, 2008

Best Thriller Of 2007

With Superbad, The Bourne Ultimatum, and Rush Hour 3 out in theaters the same time as The Invasion, it was easily forgotten by movie goers. This movie was definately a hidden gem at the movie theater, and i'm glad that I took the time to see it. Nicole Kidman is looking better than ever in this sci-fi thriller. Her performance is amazing to watch and its really what drives this movie (not the spitting aliens). I feel Daniel Craig was kind of holding back but he signed on to this movie way before the James Bond flick. This movie isn't just about crazy aliens invading earth, its about ideas. What if no one had emotion? Our world would be at peace. But if we didn't have the freedom to hate and fight, then we wouldn't have the freedom to love. So after you watch this movie and are entertained by this gripping, fast paced, suspensful thirller, and say hey, "Nicole Kidman had great work done on her face" watch it again and think more about the idea of a spritless and humanless world. What would you rather have?

Not too bad.

If you are looking for something deep, with a great storyline and unforgettable creatures, look elsewhere. But while this film isn't great, it's not bad, either. Nice movie if you just feel like watching something.

Fourth Time's The Charm!

I have loved all four of the invasion/body snatcher films in their own right, as they have all been made to model each era they were made in. However, of all four that are now made, this one (the fourth in the series) is by far my favorite. The reason: it tells of a time we all live in and gives serious insight into the condition of humanity we are living in. Not only is the story easy to believe, but it also is helped by ground-breaking performances by stars Nicole Kidman and Daniel Craig. As Carol Bennell, Nicole Kidman gives us a true glimpse of what it is like to be a working woman with a child, concerned for the safety of her child; and Daniel Craig is a wonderful screen partner for Nicole Kidman as Ben Driscoll. On another note, this film was bashed by critics and users because it mixed two film ideas together, but I think that these two different layers give the film something others do not: two sides to every story. So, in the end, this film is one of my favorites of all time because it is a piece of art that takes different perspectives, and then blends them together to make a piece that speaks of human society today. However, even though I love this movie as it is, I would be greatly interested in seeing this film's original cut.
