When a crew of the FBI’s most wanted criminals rent rooms at a New Orleans bed and breakfast to carry out a very detailed and precise heist robbery, they realize that no amount of planning could take into account the elderly eccentric landlady who foils them at every turn. Tom Hanks has been cast as a thief in this film along with Marlon Wayans ('Scary Movie'). Dark comedy remake by the Coen Brothers ('Fargo', 'O Brother, Where Art Thou?'). Barry Sonnenfeld ('Men In Black', 'Get Shorty') serves as a producer on the project. This is a remake of the 1955 British Ealing comedy of the same name starring Sir Alec Guinness and Peter Sellers. Tom Hanks is playing the professor role that Guinness played in the original.

Fresh: Those seeking a quirky and clever comedy should hightail it to The Ladykillers forthwith.
Rotten: Structured like a Mad magazine parody where there's a promised joke in each frame. It doesn't add up to a movie.
Rotten: There's the mind-numbing oompah rhythm of every gag telegraphed and every joke pounded into the ground.
Fresh: It's both lowdown and effete, a jamboree of whoopee jokes and sick wit.
"I got blueberry syrup on my safari jacket."
Coen Brothers' unconventional remake/homage of Alexander Mackendrick's 1955 film. Supposedly Disney was hoping for another "O Brother Where Art Thou," but ended up with this offbeat gem. At issue (amongst other things) was Tom Hanks playing a role counter to his more atypical and profitable roles. Despite and probably due to this, the film is an awesome testament to his brilliance. However, each performer pulls more than his or her weight, particularly a standout Marlon Wayans performance and J.K. Simmons as Garth Pancake. ... "We must all have waffles forthwith! We must all think, and we must all have waffles, and think each and every one of us to the very best of his ability... "
Most Underrated of the Coen's
The Ladykillers is one of the best remakes modern hollywood has put out. It combines trademarked Coen satire with outstanding performances from the entire cast. This movie truly stands near the top of the Coen's long list of great cinematic masterpieces.
He brought the B**** to the waffle house!
Easily the best Hanks comedy, one of his best overall. A steal at $10.
