About the Movie
Robert Redford stars in this action drama as General Irwin, a respected three-star tactician whose career ends in disgrace when he is court-martialed and sent to The Castle, a maximum security military prison. Irwin quickly butts heads with the facility's autocratic warden, Colonel Winter (James Gandolfini), who runs his command with an iron fist, even killing prisoners when he deems it necessary. Irwin rallies his fellow convicts into a rag-tag army and leads them in a revolt against Winter, an action that the warden is ready to repel by violent means. Mark Ruffalo, Robin Wright Penn, and Delroy Lindo co-star in this Dreamworks production, the third feature film from one-time film critic Rod Lurie.

Top Critics' Reviews
Rotten: It's not objectionable (which is saying something these days) but neither does it have any compelling reason to be seen.
Fresh: [Lurie] acquits himself well in his first large-scale action movie.
Rotten: The themes that ring out most loudly in the end -- some men are just born leaders; others do best if they just conform -- are numbingly retrograde.
Fresh: The Last Castle is not as simple as it looks, though its appeal is simple.
This is absolutely a fantastic movie its thrilling, its emotional, and the maker finally came up with a good thing to make a movie about. The scene at the end is especially good. To briefly describe this movie I would say it is about a general who faces challenges in destroying the cruel leader of the prison and triumphs in the end.
Redford's acting is good, yet the plot/ script is ..well just awful.Try the Shawshank Redemption, if your Looking for a movie w a prison story.
This movie was just great, do I need to say anymore.
