Top Critics' Reviews

Fresh: Pretty or not, the stories of dropped gloves and smashed faces shed some clarity on the game's violence ... – Nicolas Rapold, New York Times, Jan 31, 2013

Fresh: Gibney celebrates hockey's fisticuff traditions while also recognizing how such brutality ultimately takes its greatest toll on those who perpetrate it. – Nick Schager, Village Voice, Feb 13, 2013

Fresh: Gibney deserves credit for making a hockey film that the uninitiated can watch with interest, and for focusing on an issue even some hockey fans can't make up their minds about. – Farran Smith Nehme, New York Post, Feb 1, 2013

Fresh: The opening sections of this film play like a greatest-hits clip collection, but when Gibney delves deeper into Nilan's personality, it's a magnetic portrait of a rinkside Raging Bull. – Colin Covert, Minneapolis Star Tribune, Feb 15, 2013

an amazing education display of why fighting must remain in hocky

After hearing about this movie for some time I was so exicted to see it avail on itunes. Chris Nilan's name is held alongside the most talented and dangerous men to ever lace up the skates: Probie, Schultzie, Byers, and Nilan. These men carried out the role assigned with as much professionalism as possible and played by 'the code' (too taboo to even discuss further). To the layperson, pls understand an elimination of fighting in this great sport will only put players in life threatening situatios; this film did a remarkable job of illustrating this. As a rink rat from South Boston who was on skates prior to walking, I want to tell Mr. Nilan that you are still an idol of mine both on the ice and your commitment to winning after the game. Tx.

Great flick

Well put together, Chris Nilan was a helluva player. Worth renting for sure.

Lots of fun!

& a great time for all fans of hockey & hockey enforcers (well, anyone who likes a good documentary should enjoy it too). Really loved it
