About the Movie
Get even more action and adventure in this special Director's Definitive Cut of The Last of the Mohicans! An epic adventure and passionate romance unfold against the panorama of a frontier wilderness ravaged by war. Academy Award® winner Daniel Day-Lewis (Best Actor in 1989 for My Left Foot) stars as Hawkeye, rugged frontiersman and adopted son of the Mohicans, and Madeleine Stowe is Cora Munro, aristocratic daughter of a proud British Colonel. Their love, tested by fate, blazes amidst a brutal conflict between the British, the French and Native American allies that engulfs the majestic mountains and cathedral-like forests of Colonial America. Based on the American literary classic by James Fenimore Cooper.

Top Critics' Reviews
Fresh: ...the action is richly detailed and thrillingly staged.
Fresh: He conceives of the story as if it were a gigantic piece of mood music.
Fresh: The Last of the Mohicans gets off to a bumpy start, gathers feeling and momentum and comes roaring into the homestretch at full gallop. When this historical adventure kicks in, it's thrilling in the way old-fashioned epics used to be.
Fresh: Mann wasn't thinking story, he was thinking scheme. Keep the eyes and ears dazzled, he reasons, and the substance will follow.
A lush and violent piece if film making! Sad and exciting!
An Emasculated Version of a Masterpiece
Unfortunately, I must rate this movie as low as possible. To make a long story short, this version -- as advertised -- is the "Director's Definitive Cut". It differs in several key scenes with the the Theatrical version. The differences are, in my opinion and in the opinion of a multitude of other fans (see many of the forums searching for the Theatrical edition on the internet), enough to make this version absolutely terrible when compared to the original.
iTunes previously sold the Theatrical edition of the movie but recently removed it and added this version. I wrote a much longer Review of this movie, which was both politely and intelligently composed, just a few days ago expressing my discontent at this choice and the desire for the other version of the movie. I hope that this review actually makes it to posting. iTunes, please post the theatrical version of this movie -- I assure you, it will sell better than this version!
Let me be clear, the theatrical version of this movie is one of my absolute favorite movies of all time. This version, however, emasculates it.
