Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: This one is for Hank Williams fanatics only, and Mr. Thomas puts a dark and subtle sheen on a disappointingly watery script. – Jeannette Catsoulis, New York Times, Jun 21, 2012

Fresh: Bearing all the hallmarks of a small-budget labor of love, The Last Ride is a leisurely paced but modestly engaging road trip that gets considerable mileage from the byplay between its two lead characters. – Joe Leydon, Variety, Jun 22, 2012

Rotten: Dramatically thin, formally uninspired and thematically weak, "The Last Ride" really goes nowhere. – Mark Olsen, Los Angeles Times, Jun 29, 2012

Fresh: It portrays Williams in a generally sympathetic light without whitewashing his vice-loving, belligerent ways or mythologizing them in a bid for postmortem psychoanalysis. – Mark Holcomb, Village Voice, Jun 19, 2012

Good Movie

I liked the movie and thought Mr. Thomas did a great job portraying Hank Williams. The movie would have been great if more of Hank's songs were played and if a performance or two or three was included.

A Hidden Gem

I loved this movie. Henry Thomas deserved an Oscar. Jesse James played his role perfectly. Kaley Cuoco lit up the screen, while Fred Thompson commanded it. Benjy Gaither's music choices are powerful, especially Michael English's haunting version of "I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry". It's a shame this movie did not receive wider distribution, but I am so glad to have found it on iTunes.

I love this movie. If you want action, this movie isn't for you. If you want a riveting story, then this movie is for you.
