About the Movie
Alex and Nica are young, in love and engaged to be married. The summer before their wedding, they are backpacking in the Caucasus Mountains in Georgia. The couple hire a local guide to lead them on a camping trek, and the three set off into a stunning wilderness, a landscape that is both overwhelmingly open and frighteningly closed. Walking for hours, they trade anecdotes, play games to pass the time of moving through space. And then, a momentary misstep, a gesture that takes only two or three seconds, a gesture that’s over almost as soon as it begins. But once it is done, it can’t be undone. Once it is done, it threatens to undo everything the couple believed about each other and about themselves. All the while, they are not alone. They are always with the guide, who witnesses their every move. The film plays off the relationship between young travelers and the places they travel to, between guide and guided. But at heart, it is a love story -- a tale about betrayal, both accidental and deliberate, about masculinity, failure and the ambiguities of forgiveness.

Top Critics' Reviews
Fresh: It is gripping and haunting, but also coy and elusive.
Fresh: Shot on location by cinematographer Inti Briones, "Planet" is a piece of art even without Bernal and Furstenberg, who are like moving portraits of themselves in this film.
Rotten: Though it's not without virtues, "The Loneliest Planet" may try the patience of even the most dedicated lovers of art film.
Fresh: Loktev has written and directed with a haunting emphasis on the shortcomings of some interpersonal communication.
Not a "thriller"
Nope, this isn't a "thriller" by a long shot -- both the description and the trailer are extremely misleading. It's an art film based on a (not very) interesting "thing" that happens to an engaged couple while on a backpacking vacation. Add to that a lame *ahem* "artistic" ending with no resolution at all, and this film is a dud.
Do yourself a favor and read the Wikipedia summary before seeing this movie. You'll be glad you did.
Such a horrible movie
By far one of his worst movies the main actor is very good in all his other movies except this one. The trailer is nothing like the movie the setting is nice but the storyline was awful. It's supposed to be how she becomes crazy but really this movie drove me crazy.
No Thriller This
This film is a tribute to the BS artistry of film critics everywhere. A film critic's ability to make something out of nothing is a talent unlike any other. If this movie is a "thriller,' then "My Dinner With Andre" represents the very best of this genre. The Loneliest Planet is not only forgettable, it is regrettable as a waste of both of my time and money. As for the film critics, creative banter and psycho-babble does not an intellectual make. Better luck next time.
