About the Movie

Zac Efron stars with Taylor Schilling and Blythe Danner in the romantic drama "The Lucky One," directed by Academy Award®-nominated writer/director Scott Hicks ("Shine"), based on Nicholas Sparks' bestseller The Lucky One. U.S. Marine Sergeant Logan Thibault (Efron) returns from his third tour of duty in Iraq, with the one thing he credits with keeping him alive-a photograph he found of a woman he doesn't even know. Discovering her name is Beth (Schilling) and where she lives, he shows up at her door, and ends up taking a job at her family-run local kennel. Despite her initial mistrust and the complications in her life, a romance develops between them, giving Logan hope that Beth could be much more than his good luck charm.

Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: A lazy (in all ways) Nicholas Sparks romance that's as pretty and vacant as its hero. – Amy Biancolli, San Francisco Chronicle, Apr 20, 2012

Rotten: The overheated eroticism could have at least made for a camp classic, but the film's chilling narcissism ultimately makes for a pleasureless fantasy. – Rafer Guzman, Newsday, Apr 20, 2012

Rotten: [Hicks] hits the beats - lonely woman, hunky stranger - without bothering to develop even the slightest depth. – Elizabeth Weitzman, New York Daily News, Apr 20, 2012

Rotten: I'm beginning to think writer Nicholas Sparks isn't one person at all, but a roomful of ladies doing Harlequin-romance Mad Libs. – Sara Stewart, New York Post, Apr 20, 2012

Yeah, he's changed...a lot. And good for him. I read in interviews recently that Zac Efron wanted to get as far away from his "Disney" image as possible...he certainly has done that! However, going to the plot line of the film, it wasn't so good. The acting wasn't bad on the other hand, so that got me through. But the story was so ridiculous and predictable that I almost fell asleep. It's not bad, but it's not great.

What was wrong with it?

Okay, I'll admit it wasn't a masterpiece. But I mean seriously, what did you expect? Its a Sparks novel, not the next great american novel. But I liked Efron in it, he's really grown up and personally I think he's a skilled young actor (he's not too bad on the eyes either (~:). I liked the plot and think its the best sparks adaptation since the notebook (remeber dear john, the last song.... neither do I). My point is, its not gonna be winning any oscars this year, but its a sweet, good chick flick. I reccomend it for a girls night (~:

Good real story makes you feel good when you walk out of the theatre

Loved the movie, and Yes the storyline has been done before, but it was a real storyline and it just made you feel good inside....
