During the 1950s blacklist era, a young and ambitious Hollywood screenwriter (Jim Carrey -- "How the Grinch Stole Christmas," "Batman Forever") loses his job and sets off on a trip up the California coast without plans to return. Along the way, he gets in an accident, loses his memory and is found on the shore of a small town where it is believed that he is the son of one of the townsfolk who went missing in the war. As the missing soldier's return helps bring the town back to life, the writer finds new courage, love and the power of his convictions. Also starring Academy Award-winner Martin Landau ("Ready to Rumble," "Ed Wood"), Laurie Holden ("Past Perfect," TV's "The X-Files"), David Ogden Stiers ("Lilo & Stitch," TV's "M*A*S*H") and Bob Balaban ("Gosford Park," "Best in Show"), and directed by Oscar-nominated Frank Darabont ("The Green Mile," "The Shawshank Redemption").

Top Critics' Reviews
Rotten: Marks a steep downturn in Jim Carrey's career.
Fresh: I think Americans are in the mood today for a sentimental movie about their values, and, frankly, it's wonderful to see people get teary-eyed over the First Amendment.
Fresh: Carrey gets the best role of his own career -- and plays it with tenderness, valor, bravery and deeply moving conviction. I find him positively captivating.
Rotten: Darabont and screenwriter Michael Sloane's misty-eyed tribute may be pleasant in places, but it's too manufactured and deliberate to be persuasive.
Love this movie

This is such a great movie.I loved it.
Critics are WAAAY WRONG!!
Whoever the critics are that say this movie is rotten... They are rotten. This is Jim Carrey's greatest and most captivating film he has ever done. The story is heartwarming and exciting. Yes, Carrey is not a goof in this film but that is why this film is so important to his acting career! He shows that he can do more than just comedy... He can play a very convincing "normal" character too! Watch this movie, buy this movie, you won't be disappointed.
