During the 1950s blacklist era, a young and ambitious Hollywood screenwriter (Jim Carrey -- "How the Grinch Stole Christmas," "Batman Forever") loses his job and sets off on a trip up the California coast without plans to return. Along the way, he gets in an accident, loses his memory and is found on the shore of a small town where it is believed that he is the son of one of the townsfolk who went missing in the war.
